The music department is housed in West Manor and has a varied set of resources including a KS4 room which is set up with midi compatible computers and a KS3 room that is a multi-purpose room, equipped with electronic keyboards, guitars and two drum kits. The music department also has use of four practice rooms and a recording studio.
The music department has a regular calendar of events throughout the school year including Lawn Manor X Factor and GCSE Recital Evenings. It also plays a large part in whole school productions and musical plays.
Pupils at KS3 study a very practical course where they all focus on skills on keyboard, guitar and drum kit. It is through these skills that we develop listening and understanding of music and compositional skills, when the pupils create their own music.
At KS4 pupils study GCSE Music and are given the opportunity to specialise in their chosen instrument, develop their composition skills and also study a range of music styles in their listening and appraising work.
We have a facility in school where pupils can learn to play the following instruments in either a small group lesson of 2/3 students or an individual lesson, these lessons are free for students studying GCSE Music:
- Brass
- Strings
- Piano/Keyboard
- Drumkit
- Guitar (Acoustic & Electric)
- Voice
