Teaching and Learning

Learning at Lawn Manor is the number one priority for our pupils and for our staff, because we are a learning institution. Our core motivation is the desire to help young people meet and exceed their potential. We use evidenced-based educational research from around the world and combine it with the tried and tested traditional teaching methodologies that underpin excellent centres of learning in the UK and abroad, in order to make excellence a reality in all the classrooms at our school.

At Lawn Manor, our focus is on creating a learning culture and having the highest expectations of success for each of our pupils. We seek to create successful learners and well-rounded individuals that will leave our school equipped to take the next steps on their journey into adulthood. Our core I LEARN values (Independence Literacy Equipment Attitude Resilience and Numeracy) are designed to inspire those skills that will support our pupils as they follow this path and create their futures.

In our classrooms we have specific behavioural expectations and learning routines that mean that every pupil will be able to access the best learning in every classroom. We are clear that this is a baseline expectation for every learner, and for every teacher in every subject.

Classroom Routines

In order to enable our pupils to access learning quickly and to reduce confusion between classrooms we adhere to a few very simple generic expectations. We have very clear classroom routines at Lawn Manor Academy, and our expectations are the same across every classroom.

Ongoing Improvement

We are a learning institution, proud of our engagement with literature and research in order to improve ambitions and outcomes for our pupils. We have worked a lot with Lemov’s “Teach Like a Champion” (TLaC) and Bambrick-Santoyo’s “Leverage Leadership” to help formulate context specific ideas to improve our school. We are also looking at how we can integrate TLaC into the ideas behind Barak Rosenshine’s “Principles of Instruction”, recently brought back into the spotlight by Tom Sherrington.
