Physical Education is integral to the culture at Lawn Manor Academy. As a department we follow a broad and balanced curriculum that promotes a healthy, active lifestyle, but also engages and inspires students in a range of sports and activities. Lessons at Lawn manor are well planned and aim to fulfil two key areas; the first is centered around student enjoyment and engagement. The second key area is the intent on delivering learning experiences where students are able to acquire new skills and to develop existing ones, regardless of their starting point.
The department believes in developing physical literacy, aiming to create sporting ‘all-rounders’ where each sport is valued as much as the next. Through this participation approach, we look to build student confidence and esteem. The department promotes sporting values that link to the whole school iLearn curriculum. Our KS4 students get choice over the sports and activities they want to participate in. This creates a culture of students wanting to take part but also aims to inspire students to take up a lifelong love of physical activity for when they leave us in year 11.
The Physical Education department prides itself on its extra-curricular offer, mixing a blend of traditional sports but aims to introduce sports rooted in participation for all. Our motivation is to find and offer a sport that every child enjoys. In addition to these daily afterschool and lunchtime clubs, the department offers weekly, competitive opportunities, taking part in local and countywide fixtures and tournaments against other schools. Lawn Manor Academy appreciates and values the power of sport and this is represented in all Physical Education lessons across all age groups.
